THE Myrtleford community remains in shock after a serious crash on Buffalo River Road almost killed six young men on Friday night.

Police are investigating speed and alcohol as factors in the crash, which has left two of the young men in a Melbourne hospital in a critical, but stable condition.

The crash occurred when the men were travelling along Buffalo River Road, headed towards Lake Buffalo, with the driver losing control before the vehicle left the road and collided with a power pole just after 11pm.

All six men were inside the cabin of the recent model dual cab Toyota Hilux at the time of the collision, with the two most seriously injured seated in the back.

Four of the men involved were 20 year olds, one was 18 and the other 21.

Two of the 20 year olds were airlifted to the Alfred Hospital and remain in critical but stable conditions.
