ALPINE Shire Council mayor Peter Roper has confirmed he will not stand for a fourth term as mayor in the mayoral election on November 11.
“Three years is a long time to be mayor…I’ve been involved with two different councils in that time,” he said.
“There has been a lot of strategic decisions made and there’s still a long way to go.
“It’s been intense and challenging, but I’m proud of what I’ve achieved in my time as mayor.
“There will be a lot of skill required from the new mayor as all the changes that have been set in motion need to be consolidated and presented to the community, and the process needs someone with a different skill set.”
Deputy mayor Jan Vonarx has confirmed she will be throwing her hat into the ring once again, saying “it’s time the community had a full-time mayor”.
